SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) is a public portal that ranks academic and research-related institutions through a composite indicator based on research, innovation, and societal impact.

It uses data from international sources such as Scopus, PATSTAT, and other web, open access, media, and policy-related sources to analyze universities, research centers, hospitals, government agencies, companies, and non-profit organizations.
What does SIR measure?
SIR measures institutional performance through 20 indicators grouped into three dimensions: Research, Innovation, and Societal impact.

These indicators cover scientific output, citation impact, open access, international collaboration, patents, technological impact, media mentions, web visibility, Sustainable Development Goals, female scientific talent, and impact in public policy.
Is SCImago Institutions Rankings a reputation ranking?
No. SIR is not based on reputational surveys.

It uses auditable evidence from international data sources to help users understand institutional performance through measurable indicators.
How are results calculated?
SIR results are calculated through a composite indicator based on Research, Innovation, and Societal impact.

Research represents 50% of the final score, Innovation 30%, and Societal impact 20%. The final indicator is normalized on a 0 to 100 scale.
