      Critics Consensus

Brainy and bloody in equal measure, One Cut of the Dead reanimates the moribund zombie genre with a refreshing blend of formal daring and clever satire.

Elisabeth Vincentelli New York Times Ueda... manages to reinvigorate two of the most tired tropes cluttering our media landscape: art as meta commentary on art, and explosive diarrhea. Dec 25, 2019 Full Review Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle One Cut of the Dead isn't just charming. It's an earnest and funny love letter to all the microbudget dreamers who use all their heart and ingenuity to make their movie. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com You have to want to invest in his characters in order for One Cut of the Dead to really take off. Georgan G This zombie film within a film is an example of why I like to read up on a film b4 viewing. Knowing to carefully watch each character during all 3 sections was key. Initially, I was bored, but as I continued to watch I got more & more into it. Loved that for $25k the film grossed $50 MILLION! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Anton A One of the most unique directing experiences I've watched. For people more familiar with the amateur cinematography, this might not be anything new, but a one-take zombie film with an extra spin is just the freshest thing! I can't say anything more, just watch it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Mark D Not sure why this gets all the hype. Brutal to sit thru the whole thing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review eduard g One Cut of the Dead. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 💯%... which is laughable.. I found this film to be BORING A.F.. maybe it's a "Japanese Humor" thing... maybe thats why it made so much money in Japan.. I spent 90 minutes watching this film, waiting to get nervous, scared or laugh.. I laughed once. Alot of American reviewers say "Oh, it gets better towards the end...".. No it didnt get better, it was #^!$$ing STUPID. "JUAN OF THE DEAD"... Was the first Zombie film made in Cuba with "Real Zombies" 😉... THAT movie was funny as fuck... "Train to Busan", a South Korean Zombie film.. was 1000 times better than "One Cut". Who ever thinks "One cut of the Dead" is the #1 Zombie film ever made, must be on drugs The film won alot of praise... mostly in Japan... I can only praise it for turning 25 thousand dollars into 25 million. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Rober t funny and amazing escherian film Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews
