Assessing knowledge
Assessing the state of knowledge on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people in support of sustainable development
IPBES performs regular and timely assessments of knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem services and their interlinkages, which include comprehensive thematic, global and regional assessments. To date, 14 IPBES assessments have been completed.
As part of the IPBES 2030 work programme, the following assessments are currently ongoing:
A methodological assessment on monitoring biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people:
- Overview of the scope of the monitoring assessment
- Overview of the events related to the monitoring assessment
A methodological assessment of integrated biodiversity-inclusive spatial planning and ecological connectivity:
- Overview of the scope of the spatial planning and connectivity assessment
- Overview of the events related to the spatial planning assessment events
A second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services:
- Overview of the scope of the second global assessment
- Overview of the events related to the second global assessment
IPBES members, observers and interested stakeholders have opportunities to review the draft assessment reports during the external review periods. The literature cut-off date is set for a couple of weeks prior to the beginning of specific external review periods (i.e., external review for fast-track assessments and the second external review for other assessments). The specific date is therefore subject to change, based on the timeline shifts.
