Erich Clar page

[edit]

I want to include a synthetic reaction that is known as Clar's reaction. It is of a certain class of cyclic ketones that condense with themselves when heated to 400 C in a mixture of zinc dust and zinc chloride.

I will add references and a description of what it is used for in synthesizing new polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Thank you!

[edit]

Aah thank you so much for helping on the Trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether article - I have basically no familiarity with chemistry and related areas, but I know that writing out certain things has to be done in particular ways. If I run into similar articles in future, where some element in a formula or technical name is being flagged as a type of error over here at the clean-up project, would it be okay to ask for your help if I'm unsure how to fix it? And/or is there a relevant project that you know of where I could also enlist help? Pikkupapupata ðŸ’Œ ðŸŒ· 00:30, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome to ping me if you have any questions or uncertain cases. WT:CHEMICALS is a fairly active community. DMacks (talk) 02:20, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, cheers! Pikkupapupata ðŸ’Œ ðŸŒ· 12:50, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Request

[edit]

Do you mind uploading an image of the logo to the article of mine Schweid & Sons? I would appreciate it. Γ+2 (talk) 21:26, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have one. I actually don't know anything at all about that company. Do you have one? What problem did you have trying to upload it? DMacks (talk) 21:54, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. I will try to upload the image, I asked you because you uploaded an image to Tetraiodomecurate(II) and I thought you might have been able to help. Γ+2 (talk) 22:01, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The image I would like to upload can be found here (at the very top, near the article header). The trouble I’m having is the whole copyright licensing stuff and I’m worried I might be infringing copyright laws but I’m not sure. Γ+2 (talk) 22:09, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@DMacks Γ+2 (talk) 00:37, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it might be a copyright infringement. The logo is creative graphics, so it is owned by the company. However, it's easy to make the case that the logo for a company should be in the article about that company. That means it would be an allowable "non-free content" exception to Wikipedia's normal rules if you upload it here to the English Wikipedia. It would not be allowed on the shared Commons media site (no NFC exception there). DMacks (talk) 01:13, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Draft for improvement

[edit]

Hello, you seem to be present on many chemistry articles, so I’d appreciate it if you could help improve mine (by maybe adding an image and more academic sources) 4-Oxo-TEMPO so it hopefully gets accepted. Thanks for reading! Γ+2 (talk) 17:52, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Draftify question

[edit]

Hi there! Just wanted to ask, from the Felicia Kingsley discussion, I didn't think I could draftify the article because it had already been draftified and then returned to mainspace. I thought it had to go to AfD instead after one draftification. Am I confused and incorrect, or is this different because of the creator's block? Meadowlark (talk) 23:37, 30 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You're right on the letter of the policy intself. But it's not in a vacuum. The article should never have been moved back to mainspace because it's a BLP minefield consistent with LLM (which is prohibited). Due to the risk of bad BLP content and known other cases of mis-sourced and unsourceable content, I can take it as spirit of draft purpose, and am willing to take the heat for admin discretion via IAR. Obviously if some other editor is willing to counter-sign on the validity of it, I'd say "sure, it's fine for mainspace". But that's exactly the AFC/Draft-space process:) DMacks (talk) 01:59, 1 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Oh that's what I missed, of course, the BLP aspect. Duh! Of course that overrides other considerations. I should have moved it back to draftspace, but held back in confusion (and I was pretty confident that someone with more experience would address it if I'd make a mistake). Next time I'll do better. Thanks for your very quick answer! :) Meadowlark (talk) 02:08, 1 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. We don't usually have so many inter-related messes in one place:) Fortunately! DMacks (talk) 02:10, 1 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
