This is how you create readers. Mum was waiting for a friend and sat reading. Doesn't matter what the book is, children are still hearing language, connecting words. It's not a child's book but the baby was engaged.
During English, Year 6 have been considering the differences between fact and opinion, using their class reader #hugocabret by #brianselznick. @theliteracytree@scholasticuk@_Reading_Rocks_@OpenUni_RfP@BCPP__

i've been conducting my dissertation interviews with black girls in middle school. one question i ask is where do they feel the most like they belong when at school. so many girls have mentioned the library, so i went to check it out with one participant.
. As I told her, many students can't just buy books on Amazon. School libraries "put literature where students of all backgrounds can easily access it." #EdScare.
Such a clever concept & sure to provide hours of discovery. The viewing lens reveals hidden #bugs & #plants found on each continent whilst the species guides have detailed drawings & information. There's also a QR code so you can do this with your device! #Illumibugs
Celebrate the natural 🌎 with our teacher resources!🥳
With vibrant fossil prints on every page, #TinyOwlRockAndRoll celebrates the gorgeous 🌎 we live in, whilst cleverly touching on issues like conflict & jealousy 💙

“Before landscapes die, they first vanish in the imagination”. This is the story of a small brook on the outskirts of London, the Aldersbrook, which has survived against the odds, but in the worst state imaginable, & my attempts to act as a guardian of this river & its rights
Inspired by @debraperrin63 and her #WorldCup2022 display, this is now at the library door.
Lots of books about the beautiful game. It also includes info about life in Qatar and a QR code to @amnesty. Books about #HumanRights are there too.
Let's think more widely about the event.
Nomads explores different ways of living, looking at diverse cultures across the world that are more in tune with the environment. This definitely fills a gap in the market & is an important book that should be in every #primary#schoollibrary#nomads
Interesting, informative & sure to delight all 8-12 yr old dinosaur fans, this is the story of how they evolved into birds. Looking at fossils, evolution and other aspects such as feathers, tails, wings & food, I'm pleased to see there's also a section on animal extinction today
After we heard the news this week that Marcus Sedgwick had died, we realised his book #AllInYourHead was finally available. Today, I'm asking every reader, writer, editor who has loved his work to pledge to read and to share this important, funny, moving book. #Undiagnosis#ME
To cut through all the whataboutery, how about this as a base criteria? There shouldn’t be a World Cup anywhere that wouldn’t hold a Women’s World Cup.
Last night the g/s (6) picked this book to read & remarked "octopuses aren't as big as houses". So this morning we've been researching how big they can be (up to 30ft) & the difference between an octopus & squid! #neverstoplearning
Inspired by a fellow librarian, my football display also highlights Human Rights, challenging students to think widely about the event #schoollibrarydisplay#schoollibraries#WorldCup#HumanRights

There was a baby chimp born at The Sedgwick County Zoo, the baby had to be put on oxygen for a few days. This is a clip of it being reintroduced to its mother for the first time.

Shocked and saddened by this news. I was privileged to have Marcus visit my school and to hear him speak on several occasions. So inspirational - such a loss.
This is absolutely devastating. He was a wonderful writer and a kind and gracious man. Rest in peace Marcus https://thebookseller.com/news/award-winning-author-marcus-sedgwick-dies-unexpectedly-aged-54…
My article on leadership and school librarians is out now in @InfoProMag. All school libraries need an experienced, professional librarian at their helm. We should be looking to our international colleagues for inspiration! @intlNadine@IFLA@GreatSchLibs@richardgerver twitter.com/CILIPSLG/statu…
Over the next few days, I'm going to unpack the 5 modules of our new #Digital Leadership for Libraries course, explore what they cover & share some highlights. They are completely free and enrolment takes a few minutes.

In 2016 we did a paper on how schools communicate health messages with homes. It's open access right now so take a look if you're interested in schools and health/health literacy #health#HealthLiteracy#schools

My (nearly 9) g/d's fav current game is playing "teachers". She has written a list of what she needs:
- blue, black, red, yellow, green & orange markers
- register
- class book
- whiteboard
- rubber
- times tables sheets
- French book
If, like me, you you abhor this threat to the future education of our kids, please make your feelings known through the public consultation being conducted by the local authority. 2/2
OUR VERY BIG NEWS! I've been hard at work with a new team of #YoungContributors. This new project will bring their voices to life in a new book with the amazing @MrSteveAntony, thanks to @OtterBarryBooks. We asked - what sort of world do children want? And how can we create it?
