ACM Open Conference Statement

The open exchange of ideas and the freedom of thought and expression are central to the aims and goals of ACM and its conferences.  These aims and goals require an environment that recognizes the inherent worth of every person and group, that fosters dignity, understanding, and mutual respect, and that embraces diversity.
 
ACM is firmly committed to prohibiting discrimination at its conferences against individuals because of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status religion, national origin, ancestry, or disability.  All individuals are entitled to participate in any ACM activity free of discrimination, including harassment based on any of the above factors.

ACM is concerned about discriminatory legislation in various locations and will work with conference organizers to best address location related issues.

SIGCOMM 2020, August 10 to 14 (online)

The flagship annual conference of the ACM Special Interest Group on Data Communication focuses on the applications, technologies, architectures, and protocols in the computer communication field. Technical sessions will cover routing, telemetry, switching, verification, congestion control, datacenters, wireless technologies, and more. Amin Vahdat (Google) and Lixia Zhang (UCLA) will deliver keynotes.

L@S 2020, August 12 to 14 (online)

Learning @ Scale investigates large-scale, technology-mediated learning environments that typically have many active learners and few experts on hand to guide their progress or respond to individual needs. Workshops will address inclusivity, testing, AI for video-based learning, chatbot development, MOOCs and more. Katie Davis (University of Washington) will keynote.

SIGGRAPH 2020, August 17 to 28 (online)

This year's virtual SIGGRAPH conference will include both on-demand presentations and scheduled sessions, with expanded opportunities to experience the Animation Festival, Art Gallery, and Theater, as well as  the many courses, technical sessions and networking events, in cyberspace. Keynote speaker Marco Tempest (MIT, NASA, magicLab) will deliver a multimedia virtual presentation titled "Invent the Impossible."

ICFP 2020, August 24 to 26 (online)

The SIGPLAN International Conference on Functional Programming provides a forum for researchers and developers to learn about the latest work on the design, implementations, principles, and uses of functional programming. Keynote talks will be delivered by Evan Czaplicki (Github) on the Elm programming language and Audrey Tang (Taiwan’s Digital Minister) on how software developers can contribute to fighting the pandemic.

UbiComp 2020, September 12 to 16 (online)

The 2020 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing will feature workshops on Combining Physical and Data-driven Knowledge in Ubiquitous Computing; Continual and Multimodal Learning for Internet of Things; Mental Health and Well-Being; and more. Papers in ACM IMWUT Journal issues, a virtual Demos/Posters track, and the ISWC Design Exhibition are also part of the conference. UbiComp is collocated with the ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC).

Tapia 2020, September 16 to 19 (online)

The ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing is a premier venue to acknowledge, promote and celebrate diversity. Panels, workshops, poster sessions, networking opportunities and a career fair will bring together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, researchers, and professionals in computing from all backgrounds and ethnicities. Colin Parris, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, GE Digital will deliver the Ken Kennedy Lecture.

HLF 2020, September 21-25 (online)

The 2020 Heidelberg Laureate Forum, held virtually this year, will provide an informal venue for 200 selected young researchers to exchange ideas with renowned laureates in mathematics and computer science. ACM A.M. Turing Award Laureates including Yoshua Bengio, Vint Cerf, Barbara Liskov and many more will participate. The program includes lectures, panel discussions and a poster session; a special Hot Topic session will focus on on "eHealth."

RecSys 2020, September 22 to 26 (online)

The ACM Conference on Recommender Systems will bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to present their latest results and identify new trends and challenges in providing recommendation components in a range of innovative application contexts. Filippo Menczer, professor of Informatics and Computer Science at Indiana University, Bloomington will deliver a keynote on "4 Reasons Why Social Media Make Us Vulnerable to Manipulation."

Yoshua Bengio to Speak at AI for Good Global Summit September 29

2018 ACM A.M. Turing Award laureate Yoshua Bengio will keynote at the AI for Good Global Summit, which is being held virtually through the end of 2020. "Machine Learning Challenges in the Fight for Social Good—The Covid-19 Case" will cover two projects at Mila, his AI research institute in Montreal, the first focusing on discovering antivirals and the second about using machine learning to provide early warning signals of the virus.

AI for Good Global Summit 2020 (online), continuous digital event

The 2020 edition of the AI for Good Global Summit will be presented as a continuous digital event, featuring weekly programming across multiple formats, platforms and time-zones, including keynotes, expert webinars, project pitches, Q&As, performances, demos, interviews, networking and more. 2018 ACM A.M. Turing Award laureate Yoshua Bengio will deliver a keynote, "Machine Learning Challenges in the Fight for Social Good—the Covid-19 Case" on September 29.

FODS 2020, October 18 to 20

The FODS-2020 Conference will offer a virtual format. Program details to follow.

The ACM-IMS Interdisciplinary Summit on the Foundations of Data Science is an interdisciplinary event bringing together researchers and practitioners to address foundational data science challenges in prediction, inference, fairness, ethics and the future of data science. Scheduled keynote speakers are Mihaela van der Schaar (The Alan Turing Institute) and Oren Etzioni (Allen Institute for AI).

SIGWEB to Sponsor The Web Conference

ACM’s Special Interest Group on Hypertext, Hypermedia and the Web (SIGWEB) has taken over sponsorship of The Web Conference, starting with the 2022 edition in Lyon, France, from the International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2). Virtual Conferences: A Guide to Best Practices

In March 2020 ACM formed a Presidential Task Force (PTF) to help conference organizers transition their events to online. The PTF is working on a guide to offer practical advice and shed light on the largely unfamiliar territory of online conferencing.

The report, available here, includes pointers to a live document with additional resources. We welcome comments, suggestions and experience reports from the community.

KDD 2020, August 23 to 27 (online)

The SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining brings together researchers and practitioners from data science, data mining, knowledge discovery, large-scale data analytics, and big data. Scheduled keynoters are Emory Brown (MIT), Yolanda Gil (UCLA), Kate Crawford (NYU and Microsoft Research), Manuela Veloso (Carnegie Mellon) and Alessandro Vespignani (Northeastern University).

womENcourage 2020, September 24 to 27 (online)

womENcourage 2020 will be virtually hosted by ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijan. The roster of distinguished speakers includes Gabriele Kotsis, ACM's new president; ACM-W Europe Chair Ruth Lennon; and 2020-2021 ACM Athena Lecturer Sarit Kraus. Conference participants will learn about learn about "The Big Promise of Big Data Analytics" and explore "The Artificial Intelligence: from Algorithms to Ethics." The program also includes a career fair, hackathon, workshops and tutorials.
