ACM Open Conference Statement

The open exchange of ideas and the freedom of thought and expression are central to the aims and goals of ACM and its conferences.  These aims and goals require an environment that recognizes the inherent worth of every person and group, that fosters dignity, understanding, and mutual respect, and that embraces diversity.
 
ACM is firmly committed to prohibiting discrimination at its conferences against individuals because of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status religion, national origin, ancestry, or disability.  All individuals are entitled to participate in any ACM activity free of discrimination, including harassment based on any of the above factors.

ACM is concerned about discriminatory legislation in various locations and will work with conference organizers to best address location related issues.

Shwetak Patel Speaks at AI for Good Global Summit on July 9

ACM Prize recipient and ACM Fellow Shwetak Patel was a featured keynote speaker at the AI for Good Global Summit, which is being held virtually through the end of 2020. Patel is a Computer Science and Engineering Professor at the University of Washington. In case you missed it, you can view his talk, "New Ways of Thinking of the Mobile Phone for Healthcare and the Current Pandemic," on the ITU YouTube channel here.

AI for Good Global Summit 2020 (online), continuous digital event

The 2020 edition of the AI for Good Global Summit will be presented as a continuous digital event, featuring weekly programming across multiple formats, platforms and time-zones, including keynotes, expert webinars, project pitches, Q&As, performances, demos, interviews, networking and more. ACM Prize recipient and ACM Fellow Shwetak Patel will be a featured keynote speaker on July 9, addressing healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic .

WebSci 2020, July 7 to 10 (online)

The ACM Conference on Web Science is a unique interdisciplinary conference facilitating creative and critical dialogue aimed at understanding the Web and its impacts. A special track, "Brave Conversations," will explore what Covid-19 means as our "human-centric" perspective is challenged on many levels. Keynote speakers are ACM US Technology Policy Committee Chair Jim Hendler, and Gina Neff (Oxford Internet Institute and University of Oxford).

GECCO 2020, July 8 to 12 (online)

The Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference includes workshops on automated design of robots; benchmarking best practices; decomposition techniques; evolutionary and machine learning solutions; medical applications; and more. Scheduled keynoters are ACM Turing Award laureate Leslie Valiant, Kalyanmoy Deb (Michigan State University) and Darrell Whitley (Colorado State University).

EC 2020, July 13 to 17 (online)

Sponsored by ACM SIGecom, the Conference on Economics and Computation is the leading scientific conference on advances in theory, systems, and applications at the interface of economics and computation. Workshops will address mentoring; global challenges; economics of networks, systems and computation; and distortion and information-efficiency tradeoffs. Jacques Crémer (Toulouse School of Economics) and Milind Tambe (Harvard University, Google Research India) will keynote.

DAC 2020, July 20 to 24 (online)

The Design Automation Conference will cover topics from electronic design automation to design on cloud, machine learning, embedded systems and more. Workshops will cover approximate computing, neuromorphic computing, and DA for quantum. Keynoters include H-S Philip Wong (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing); Calista Redmond (RISC-V Foundation); Andrew Feldman (Cerebras Systems); and ACM Athena Lecturer Andrea Goldsmith (Stanford University).

The ACM-IMS Interdisciplinary Summit on the Foundations of Data Science is an interdisciplinary event bringing together researchers and practitioners to address foundational data science challenges in prediction, inference, fairness, ethics and the future of data science. Scheduled keynote speakers are Mihaela van der Schaar (The Alan Turing Institute) and Oren Etzioni (Allen Institute for AI).

ACM’s Special Interest Group on Hypertext, Hypermedia and the Web (SIGWEB) has taken over sponsorship of The Web Conference, starting with the 2022 edition in Lyon, France, from the International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2). ICSE 2020, July 6 to 11 (online)

The ACM/IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering will feature the latest in research, education, open source projects, testing, analysis, and more. Keynoters include Satish Chandra (Facebook), Jim Herbsleb (Carnegie Mellon University), Yuriy Brun (University of Massachusetts Amherst), Corina Pasareanu (Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley, NASA Ames Research Center), and A.E. Eiben (Vrije Universiteit).

Virtual Conferences: A Guide to Best Practices

In March 2020 ACM formed a Presidential Task Force (PTF) to help conference organizers transition their events to online. The PTF is working on a guide to offer practical advice and shed light on the largely unfamiliar territory of online conferencing.

The report, available here, includes pointers to a live document with additional resources. We welcome comments, suggestions and experience reports from the community.
