When Muna and I were told that there might be an opportunity to interview activists from Ciudad Juárez who managed to flee from the violence, repression and death threats, the first thought that came to my mind was, “We need to go to Juárez.” We read that it was one of the world’s most deadliest places outside of war-torn regions—and yet families continue to call that place home. Muna wanted to capture it all on film. I wanted to take photos and write the story.
