OGSA-DAI

From Globus

Open Grid Services Architecture Data Access and Integration (OGSA-DAI) is a Globus project that produces a pure Java Web services framework for accessing and integrating data resources on to Grids.

The OGSA-DAI project is a contributor to the Globus Toolkit distribution.

This project webpage is still in development but contains some information about the project. More information can be found at http://www.ogsadai.org.uk.

Release Schedule

Please note that though we do not envisage a major OGSA-DAI release within the next 6 months we do expect to release patches and bug-fixes at regular intervals.

Roadmap

The OGSA-DAI roadmap until December 2008 strives to balance three important areas of activity:

  • Undertaking development work to assist specific projects in their use of OGSA-DAI.
  • Undertaking ongoing research into data access and integration using OGSA-DAI.
  • Continuing work in OGSA-DAI and standards compliance.

We are currently working on developing explicit support for data integration within OGSA-DAI and understanding how best to do this. Once we have this developed and understand the options and issues involved we will then be in a good place to analyse issues such as performance, efficiency, robustness and scalability of OGSA-DAI.

Tasks completed since OGSA-DAI 3.0

Since OGSA-DAI 3.0's release in September we have completed the following tasks:

  • Implemented a distributed join scenario for the VOTES project.
  • Implemented a document-based workflow client that allows workflows expressed as XML documents to be submitted to an OGSA-DAI service.
  • Implemented a servlet for OGSA-DAI that allows HTTP access to data exposed by an OGSA-DAI data source.
  • Developed a tutorial and example activities for dynamic relational resource creation.

These have all been released as OGSA-DAI extension packs and are available at http://www.ogsadai.org.uk/downloads/

3 month roadmap to June 2008

  • Working closely with a small group of projects to develop data integration scenarios based around the use of common schema and queries to allow federation of distributed heterogeneous resources. This will exploit existing work that has been done with OGSA-DAI and schema transformation and complements the ongoing work on DQP.
  • Undertaking research into the use of generic activities and dynamic code within OGSA-DAI workflows.
  • Releasing an OGSA-DAI 3.0 extension pack offering a WS-DAIX implementation.
  • Releasing an OGSA-DAI 3.0 extension pack offering support for OMII security in OGSA-DAI 3.0 Axis.
  • Running performance analyses of OGSA-DAI 3.0 focusing on behaviour in the presence of increasing numbers of concurrent clients and concurrent requests.
  • Releasing OGSA-DQP 3.2 - an OGSA-DAI 3.0-compliant release of DQP - as part of the NextGrid project.
  • Involvement in the following events:
  • BioMed Grid School - http://www.bioinfogrid.eu/biomedgrid2008
  • OGF-23 - http://www.ogf.org/OGF23

6 month roadmap to September 2008

  • Releasing an OGSA-DAI 3.0 extension pack offering a WS-DAIR implementation.
  • Releasing an OGSA-DAI 3.0 extension pack offering an implementation of MDS registration with Globus.
  • Making OGSA-DAI more scalable and robust via more effective exploitation of persistence and multiple OGSA-DAI servers.
  • Releasing OGSA-DAI 3.1 - OGSA-DAI 3.0 with all 3.0 extension packs integrated as part of the core product, bug fixes and additional user doc. This release will contain no API changes.
  • Involvement in the following events:
  • International Summer School on Grid Computing 2008 - http://www.iceage-eu.org/issgc08/index.cfm
  • GridKa School 2008 - http://gks08.fzk.de GridKa School 2008
  • UK e-Science All Hands 2008 - http://www.allhands.org.uk/

9 month roadmap to December 2008

  • Making OGSA-DAI more scalable and robust via more effective exploitation of persistence and multiple OGSA-DAI servers.
  • Releasing OGSA-DAI 3.2 - OGSA-DAI 3.1 with all extension packs included as part of the core product, bug fixes and additional user doc. This release will contain no API changes.

Downloads

  • Officially supported OGSA-DAI products can be found in the Downloads section of the Globus Toolkit user web
  • Other versions of OGSA-DAI can also be found here
  • Source code will be available from the Globus CVS soon, once the lawyers have finished their work. In the meantime, source code is available under an open source licence from the OGSA-DAI project website (registration required).

CVS Access

The OGSA-DAI public CVS can be browsed at http://cvs.ogsadai.org.uk. This page also describes how to get anonymous access to the server.
