Flowmap answers the questions your GIS did not think of!
Flowmap is a software package dedicated to analyzing and displaying
interaction or flow data. This type of data is special in the sense that there
are two different geographic locations connected to each data item: An origin
location where the flow starts and an destination location where the flow
ends. The flow data itself can be people (e.g. commuters, shoppers, hospital
visitors), goods, usage of agricultural services or telecommunication and so
on.
Most thematic mapping and GIS packages have little functionality for
treating this kind of information.
Now Flowmap fills this gap. Flowmap is a PC software
package (Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP), developed at the Faculty of Geosciences of the Utrecht
University in the Netherlands. There are two editions: An Educational Edition,
that works interactively only, and a Professional Edition that
also works in batch mode. The professional version also has some additional
datamanagement functions. Actually, there is just one edition: if you download and install
the Educational Edition, you also have the Professional Edition, but the additional features
of the Professional Edition need to be activated by entering a registration code. See
Professional Edition for more details.
