On the productivity side, it handles every office task and workplace application flawlessly, offering an incredibly efficient and stable workflow. On the personal side, gaming on this release has been an absolute breeze. It runs standard titles with zero performance issues, and the only real friction comes from external game developers who choose not to support Linux anti-cheat software for certain AAA titles. I am aware that disagreements still persist within the wider Linux community regarding the integration of Snap packages. However, from my personal perspective, having Snaps available right out of the box is a convenient option. More importantly, Ubuntu preserves the fundamental freedom of Linux by ensuring that users still have the absolute option to completely remove the Snap if they prefer a different package management style. It balances convenience for newcomers with flexibility for power users.While other distributions come and go, this release proves why Ubuntu remains a tier-one choice for both work and play. But that was kind of a mess, its just gnome plus 20 extensions half of which are enabled, half of which have no way to easily enable them. And many apps like Zoom and VS code were using the "xwayland" so they were blurry (I was using the 1.25 Fractional Scaling to make stuff the right size) But then i downloaded Ubuntu 26.04 and it is pretty good! Interface is nice looking (orange , purple and black). And it turned scaling on for me, and ************* NOTHING IS BLURRY. ************* DOWNSIDES: The snap version of firefox is kinda slow (e.g. when i click on the menu it takes a second or two seconds to show up) When battery is low, everything is slow (this was on zorin too) It comes with a bunch of apps i don't use (my fault, I chose "extended install") And this annoying bug: Each time the .desktop database is updated, OR an app makes an "app indicators" thing, the "Web search" result shows up above all other results, AND the "Snap search" result disappears. To fix this I run gnome-extensions disable snapd-search-provider@canonical.com &&gnome-extensions disable web-search-provider@ubuntu.com &&gnome-extensions enable snapd-search-provider@canonical.com &&gnome-extensions enable web-search-provider@ubuntu.com Or open settings app, click "search," toggle app center and firefox off, then back on (in that order) It takes a bit longer to boot than Zorin (which is ubuntu 24.04 plus more bloat) All in all it is lovely to use, but some of the preinstalled extensions have bugs. No matter how hard you try and experiment with other distros, in the end, you always go back home. That's precisely what happens to me with Ubuntu. Thanks to Ubuntu, I truly began to enjoy my computers, and now it's an integral part of my life, even though I've sometimes been frustrated with it for decisions I didn't like or changes that didn't lead anywhere. In the end, everything is forgiven, because no matter how much other distros shine in their novelty, everything feels better on my Ubuntu. This latest version, 26.04, is one of the best I can remember. Despite everything, despite the Snaps (I prefer Flatpak...), everything works as it should, and everything looks modern. It runs quickly, smoothly, without any hiccups or errors. My PC is exactly what it should be. Even though I've been using Linux distributions for years, many years since the old Mandrake, I'm not an expert. I use my computers for gaming, documents, photos of my cats, music, movies, the internet, and basically, entertainment—the best kind you can get. And everything is working wonderfully well under Ubuntu. Steam, no problems, Bottles and Heroic Games Launcher—everything I need is there. To record my podcasts, I have Reco and Audacity, just two clicks away. VLC for my movies, Audacious with its Winamp skin working perfectly with my music, the best P2P with qBittorrent and Nicotine+, etc., etc. There's no format I can't handle. And with a complete Office suite including LibreOffice, in case I ever need to work. No problem. Ubuntu might not be as "trendy" as it once was, but it's still the distribution that almost all others aspire to be, and a damn beautiful and effective system.
