With just hours remaining in the transfer window, Arsenal have confirmed the transfer of centre-back Shkodran Mustafi from LaLiga club Valencia.

Injuries to Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker have created something of a crisis situation at the Emirates Stadium, with fans desperate to see ready-made reinforcements bought into plug the gap.

Paying 41 million euros for the German international, Mustafi joins after two years with Los Che, who Sampdoria received around 10m euros for his signature in 2014.

"He is at the right age. He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well," coach Arsene Wenger told the official club media.

"We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future."

The signing marks a busy day for the Gunners' fax machine, after Lucas Perez was announced as a 20m euro transfer from Deportivo La Coruna, and defender Calum Chambers left on loan for Middlesbrough.
