Susan Bertolo also worked at Learning Sprouts preschool that Cora and Dawson attended.

She looked after the ‘Sunflower’ room - which Cora attended three days a week in the mornings.

Both Lindsay and Patrick Clancy dropped off Cora. She recalls seeing Patrick more but she shared the drop-off with the other preschool teacher.

Bertolo teared up as she described Cora as an ‘amazing’ and ‘wonderful’ preschool student who she was ready to go into kindergarten.

Cora’s preschool teacher teared up as she recalled the last day she saw Cora.

On the morning of January 23, 2023, Cora was dropped off at preschool.

That day, she needed to use the bathroom more than normal, Bertolo said. She noted that she was concerned because this was out of the ordinary for the child, and told another teacher.

When she told Clancy at pickup, she said she had a doctor's appointment for Cora the next day.

The five-year-old was complaining that her tummy hurt and didn’t want to get up from her nap, her second teacher of the day, Stephanie Williams, told the court.

Williams told Clancy this when she picked her daughter up that afternoon.

Instead of Cora getting up and meeting her mom at the door to the classroom - as the children normally do - Clancy had to walk into the room and gently coax the girl to leave.

Clancy scooped up the little girl from her cot, saying to her: 'Oh baby, come on let's go get Dawson and we'll go home.'

When asked if she noticed anything different about Clancy that day - or any day - she said: She was just a very loving mother who cared very much for her children.’

Judge William Sullivan said he will take the matter under advisement until the morning.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington just added that he has an expert creating a 3D simulation to show how Clancy could have jumped out of the window.

The prosecution has objected to that.

The judge said they will review it when it is introduced.

One of the defense experts in question would dispute the state’s suicide theory.

When the judge asked why the prosecution didn’t anticipate the defense calling such a witness - after they have presented evidence raising doubts about her attempt to kill herself - the state explained that their theory is not that this was not a serious suicide attempt.

‘We have never said it wasn’t a serious suicide attempt or a fake suicide attempt. But the methods that were chosen were not serious,’ Sprague said.

Their argument is that there are ‘various reasons why she was successful in killing her children but not successful in killing herself,' she said.

Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague is pushing back, arguing that the late disclosure of the witnesses is unfair to the state.

She also claimed that one of the witnesses in question, Dr Donald Condie, would testify to the same as some of the defense’s other experts.

One of the experts in question would testify to Clancy’s injuries.

Reddington said the expert will show how her Jefferson injury - the severe spinal injury she suffered - came from her jumping headfirst out of the window.

‘Superman when he’s thrown off a horse gets that same injury,’ he said.

The state is suggesting she hung on the side of the house and dropped - as part of their assertion that she may not have intended to kill herself that day.

The defense filed a motion this morning seeking to call certain expert witnesses that the state has objected to.

The state argued that the defense brought the witnesses in too late for them to prepare to cross-examine them.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington got off to a fiery start with his argument, pointing out that ‘this is a murder trial - very serious business’ and that he has not objected to anything the state asked for.

He also pointed out that the state has a much larger team than the defense.

‘They want a cup of coffee, they can send five cops to get one!’ he claimed.

The two prosecutors looked at each other and smirked.

The jury is out but we will be back at 3pm ET.

Judge William Sullivan is excusing the jury early for the day so he can iron out a motion between the defense and prosecution.

He said the trial is currently on track - and that they will have a 'pretty full' day on Friday.

Under cross-examination, the officer confirmed that - throughout all of his investigating - he had never found any evidence that Clancy was abusive toward Dawson, Cora or Callan.
