Abstract

[[[[[]]]]]] It is a fact that we can have thoughts about material objects; we can form demonstrative thoughts¹ such as the one expressed by the sentence “That is annoying” (referring to an object we are perceiving). It is also a fact that we can form this thought because we have perceptual experience of a certain object. That is, we may assume it as a fact that having perceptual experience of an object is a necessary condition for the formation of the demonstrative thought in question (Campbell 2002). The question I am interested in addressing is: how does a subject form this kind of thought? That is, in virtue of what fact does perceptual experience place the subject in the appropriate position to have or form a thought of this kind? My aim in this text is to present a possible answer to these questions.
